The role "Chief Diversity Officer (CDO)" has become increasingly popular. However, the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by the CDO to engender sustained institution-wide change are unclear. This poster offers CDOs -- and those who recurite CDOs -- professional development advice that is based upon the presenter's research and consulting in diversity management and diversity education, with a particular focus on 20 tips for increasing effectiveness in this role. Included are professional, personal, practical, and organizational considerations. Conference attendees are invited to join me for a discussion of the tips and developmental priorities for being a more effective CDO (or recruiting a more effective one).
