In its management of a $1.555 construction bond program, the San Diego Community College District is LEEDing the way among its peers with a district-wide Green Building Policy. The District's strategic plan acknowledges the importance of modern, clean, healthy and environmentally responsible learning environments; focuses on environmental stewardship as an operational objective and component of educational mission; and emphasizes fiscal responsibility in use of taxpayer dollars. A pioneer among four-year universities, Loyola Marymount University launched its environmental initiatives in 1990 with the creation of one of the first university-wide recycling program in the country. Since then, LMU has developed educational programs, energy reduction initiatives and a strategic environmental stewardship plan for the future. Learn more about these efforts and how they can be adapted to other campuses.
