Many colleges and universities are looking for better ways to evaluate critical thinking skills. This session presents the work of an 8-year nation-wide project funded by the National Science Foundation to develop an interdisciplinary instrument to assess critical thinking. This work has culminated in dissemination of the Critical thinking Assessment Test (CAT). Over 40 institutions across the country are now using the CAT. We will provide details on a new project funded by the Teagle foundation that involves the CAT and examine how its use can support broader campus efforts to improve critical thinking and real-world problem solving.
