While more students than ever are interested in foreign travel and study abroad, more are opting for shorter, less costly intensive programs over traditional semester- or year- long residency programs. Short-term study abroad (STSA) provides experiential learning opportunities that differ significantly from classroom instruction and create unique pedagogical challenges. How can instructors effectively deliver more content in less time than during a semester long course? How do you plan activities and assignments for broad academic abilities, degree levels, and varying learning styles? What assignment format and assessment criteria work best? How do you align course outcomes to the itinerary? In this poster, we present solutions developed by a private art school with barrier-free admissions for its Art History travel courses. Sample Itineraries and teaching tips will be provided.
