Academic departments can provide community organizations with access to current research findings, resources relevant to their work, and to technical support and consultation. In turn, community-based non-profits can offer academic departments and their students opportunities to bring theory and practice to life - and do it in cost-neutral ways that benefit both sides. In this session, Antioch University Los Angeles focuses on the academic component of its university-community partnerships. Chapman University focuses on the administrative component of its relationship with the nearby Hispanic community, with the goal both to be a better neighbor and to encourage young Hispanics to think of themselves as college students at Chapman. The session will conclude with student perspectives on these university-community partnerships.
