Probation Officers are mandated to attend several training sessions to improve their clinical skills. Adult leaning principles were applied to training in Motivational Interviewing in a mandatory one-day eight-hour training.. Several vignettes of possible problem cases were presented in the session, with officers engaged in discussion of policy and clinical skills necessary to solve the issue presented. The training was about 50% didactic and the remainder included skills practice, video presentation and demonstration. A pre-post test knowledge survey was administered. Results indicated that the participants had an increase in Motivational Interviewing knowledge following the one-day training. This outcome is consistent with the literature.
