As part of the work of the VALUE Project, in 2009 AAC&U released a set of 15 metarubrics corresponding to the goals of the LEAP Framework. These rubrics are available to all institutions of higher education interested in joining a voluntary, public, formative conversation about assessment of undergraduate learning. In this session, we discuss the history, purposes, and plans of the VALUE Project and invite attendees to take advantage of this toolset as a way to bring coherence to assessment of both GE and the majors. A Faculty Inquiry Group (FIG) made up of Sacramento State professors will then discuss what they have learned by using the VALUE rubric for reading as part of a classroom-based action research model. Linking the rubrics to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning is proving powerful as a way to unpack the rubric and make it relevant to teaching-just one of the many ways AAC&U's toolset might advance teaching, learning, and assessment.
